When is Glastonbury 2023 and how to get tickets to next year's festival

The prestigious Glastonbury festival is back for the first time in two years. Last held in 2019, the iconic event was cancelled for two years running due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Music fans will be eager to get back to Worthy Farm, in Somerset, for five days filled with world-class performances, arts and entertainment. This year's headliners include Supremes star Diana Ross, Beatles legend Paul McCartney and American pop musician Billie Eilish.

The five-day celebration, which is one of the highlights of festival season, will be a busy one. There will be 31 performance areas and some lucky 210,000 people attending. The 2022 festival takes place from Wednesday 22 to Sunday 26 June.

Previous headliners have included David Bowie, Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay. But the act to draw the biggest crowd to date was The Levellers in 1994, when an estimated 300,000 people swarmed to see the Brightonian rock band - with some even gatecrashing the festival.

With some of the biggest global acts gracing the stages, it's easy to see why Glastonbury, organised by farmer Michael Eavis, is so popular. And as a result, tickets can be particularly hard to get hold of.

The majority of this year’s festival tickets were sold in 2019, carried over from the two years of cancellations. A few resale tickets became available online in March but these were quickly snapped up in 20 minutes.

As excitement grows around this year’s Glastonbury Festival, people are naturally starting to think how they may be able to get in to 2023's event. With the help of SomersetLive, we've compiled everything we know so far about next year's edition below...

Will there be a Glastonbury 2023?

Every five years, Glastonbury Festival is put on hold for a ‘fallow year’ to prevent excessive damage to the site and allow local people to rest. The last one was 2018, but with two cancellations thanks to the pandemic, the next one is not expected until potentially 2027.

So the festival is expected to go ahead in 2023. In fact, Mr Eavis has even said that the headliners have already been booked for next year and 2024 - though he stopped short of revealing who they were.

How to get a ticket for Glastonbury 2023?

The first thing to do when buying a ticket is to register on the festival website using a photograph. This is to stop touting as Glastonbury tickets are non-transferable. Resale of tickets is strictly prohibited and will result in the cancellation of your order.

Each ticket features the photograph of the registered ticket holder. Security checks are carried out to ensure that only the person in the photograph is allowed into the festival.

Everyone aged 13 or over who intends to buy a ticket must have their own valid registration number and if you intend on buying tickets for a group of people, they will all need to be registered. Registration can be done at any time in the run-up to the day the tickets go on sale.

When do tickets go on sale for Glastonbury 2023?

No date for 2023 ticket sales has been set yet - although the first ones normally go on sale in early October for the following year. Once the tickets do go up for sale online, it is advised to have a couple of devices loaded with the virtual queue as traffic into the website is often very heavy, which can make it unreliable.

But in 2019, Somerset residents had the chance to grab tickets before they went on sale to the general public - paying a £50 deposit per ticket, with the remaining balance due later. The towns and villages of Doulting, East Pennard, Glastonbury, North Wootton, Pilton, Pylle, Shepton Mallet, West Bradley and West Pennard were eligible. The list was expanded in 2020, with Castle Cary, Coleford, Stoke St Michael, Street and Wells added.
