When is Eurovision 2022, who is representing Ireland and what is the song?

This year's Eurovision Contest kicks off next week, with two semi-finals taking place on Tuesday and Thursday.

Ireland has been drawn to perform in the second semi-final on Thursday, May 12.

The Grand Final takes place on Saturday, May 14 in Turin, Italy, following the country's victory at the 2021 edition with the song "Zitti e buoni", performed by 2021 winners Måneskin.

There are 40 entries set to compete in Turin.

The slogan for Eurovision 2022 will be The Sound of Beauty and the theme artwork had also been revealed.

The Eurovision week will have three shows: Semi-final 1 on the Tuesday, Semi-final 2 on Thursday and the Grand Final on Saturday.

There will be three hosts of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022: Mika, Laura Pausini and Alessandro Cattelan.

Who is representing Ireland?

On February 4, Ireland chose an entry from six artists, Janet Grogan, Patrick O’Sullivan, Brendan Murray, Miles Graham, Rachel Goode, and Brooke Scullion, who competed on The Late Late Eurosong Special, in the hope of getting that ticket to Turin.

Over 300 songs were submitted to RTE in the hope of securing a ticket to this final, but it was these six entries which were selected to complete the Eurosong line-up.

Derry native Brooke Scullion won on The Late Late Show and will be singing the song ‘That's Rich’.

Brooke was chosen to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin in May 2022.

The 23-year-old singer-songwriter is from Bellaghy, Co Derry.

A finalist on The Voice UK in 2020, Brooke Scullion co-wrote That's Rich with Karl Zine and Izzy Warner and has since been earmarked by BBC Introducing as one to watch on the British pop scene.

Brooke cites Blondie and The Gossip as huge musical influences on her.

Speaking on her journey to Eurovision, Brooke previously told The Irish Sunday Mirror: “I’m feeling excellent. I’m buzzing.”

“I run a lot to get my stamina up for singing and dancing and I do gymnastics.”

“Ireland’s never had an entry like this before and hopefully it’ll change the game for us.

“A lot of people are taking us seriously now and that’s a really good feeling.”
