When is England’s next game at the World Cup and who do they play?

The World Cup is coming to the end of its first week, as the teams competing head into their second game of the tournament. Just six days in, there has been no shortage of drama, with a series of screamers and some shocking upsets making this controversial competition one to remember.

Following England’s 6-2 thrashing of Iran on Monday, and their clash against the USA on Friday, the Three Lions make their way through the tournament as one of a handful of favourites. Group B rivals Wales suffered a devastating defeat on Friday, as goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey’s red card led to a 2-0 loss against Iran, leaving their fate hanging in the balance.

England will be hoping to emulate their success from their previous campaign, and have a strong chance of topping their group as they make their way towards the last 16. Topping the group will set Gareth Southgate’s men up with a clash against the runner-up from Group A – likely to be Senegal, the Netherlands or Ecuador.

Placing second will pit England against the winner from Group A – either way, England could have an easy route to the quarter finals. But as every England fan knows, anything can happen in a World Cup.

Before that, England still have one group game remaining, as they head to the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan for what promises to be a dramatic clash against Wales. The two sides last met at the Euros in 2016, when an injury-time goal from Daniel Sturridge clinched a 2-1 victory for England.

Wales manager Rob Page knows that this time, anything less than three points will see his team taking an early flight home. The match will kick off on Tuesday, November 29, at 7pm UK time.
