When is Edinburgh Tattoo 2022 and all the ticket info you should know

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is back this year, after a two-year absence on account of the coronavirus crisis.

The world famous event brings thousands to the city from across the globe, with a spectacular one-of-a-kind performance that can only be seen in our city.

Running in tandem with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo's captivating display features a pipe band and Scottish Highland dancers in full flow, backed by a phenomenal fireworks display, lighting up the capital sky.

And after covid-related cancellations in 2020 and 2021, the Tattoo returns with a brand new show, Voices.

The first from the Tattoo’s new Creative Director, Michael Braithwaite, this year's event is set to draw inspiration from people across the globe who, despite physical separation, continue to connect and share their voices creatively through spoken word, song, writing, music and dance – languages common to all - perhaps an indicator of the pandemic we have lived through.

The Army has been confirmed as the lead service this year, with military acts as ever playing a key role in the event.

Supported by Tattoo pipers and drummers, and musicians from UK Military Regiments, the gathering crowd will enjoy the legendary sound of the Massed Pipes and Drums that will echo around the Esplanade as part of Voices. Also on the line-up are the Tattoo dancers and Shetland fiddlers, with additional international acts since confirmed.

Swiss drumming sensation, The Top Secret Drum Corps are on the lineup, while performers from Mexico, The United States and New Zealand have since been added to the bill.

Tattoo Creative Director, Michael Braithwaite, says: “Through the challenges and separation of the last two years, people of every culture have used their voices to remain connected. These voices can be found in many ways – the piper through music, the dancer with movement, the poet through words and the drummer with a beat.

“Voices is our desire to make next year’s Tattoo not just a reunion, but a celebration of the connections, cultures and languages that bring us together at the unique setting of Edinburgh Castle.

“I’m hugely excited to play a part in the history and spectacle of the Tattoo, helping it return to the global stage, re-energised and invigorated for a new era.”
