When is Comic Relief Red Nose Day 2023?

Comic Relief returns to screens in 2023, as some of the biggest names in TV and comedy come together to raise money for some vital causes, all while making the nation laugh. The annual fundraiser has been running for more than 35 years, after the charity was founded in 1985 by writer-director Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry in response to the Ethiopian famine.

Comic Relief’s telethon raises money for causes at home and abroad, with donations this year helping those in the UK struggling to afford food and the people of Turkey and Syria affected by the devestating earthquake. Since its inception, the charity has raised more than £1bn for a range of vital causes.

On the run up to this year’s event, the BBC will air a documentary showing Emma Willis, Oti Mabuse and Rylan battling 70mph winds and freezing temperatures as they trek between Braemar and Cairn Gorm in the Scottish Highlands. BBC’s Morning Live host Gethin Jones will also be taking on an exhausting and relentless challenge, by attempting to dance non-stop for 24 hours live from the Morning Live Studio.

On Tuesday (February 14), it was revealed that iconic British comedy Blackadder will be returning after more than 20 years for a Comic Relief special. Richard Curtis announced the news on BBC Radio 2, and while confirming Tony Robinson will be reprising the role of Baldrick, Curtis suggested series star Rowan Atkinson would not be returning.

This year, comic Relief will once again be broadcast live on the BBC, with presenter Joel Dommett taking on host duties. But when exactly is Comic Relief in 2023 and how can you tune in at home?
