Communities across Merseyside are preparing to celebrate Chinese New Year this month.
Chinese New Year marks the start of a new lunar year. Festivities begin on Sunday, January 22 with firecracker displays and parades planned in Liverpool.
Others will begin their celebrations by spring cleaning. On Chinese New Year it is common for people to give gifts of money, clothes and food.

The occasion finishes on the 15th day with a lantern festival.
What is the animal for Chinese New Year in 2023?
2023 is the Year of the Rabbit. The rabbit was selected out of 12 animals, which rotate in sequence every year.
The animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
Previous Years of the Rabbit include 1903, 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999 and 2011. Apparently, anyone born in these years will experience fluctuations of luck in 2023.
What are the lucky colours, numbers and dates for the Rabbit?

- Lucky colours: Blue, red, pink and purple
- Lucky dates: 26, 27 and 29 of each Chinese lunar month
