When does the Winter Olympics start? TV channel, live stream info, events and start times

It's only been six months since we waved goodbye to the summer Olympic Games in Tokyo but athletes are limbering up once more as the the Winter Olympic Games prepares to get under way.

The Winter Olympics are held once every four years.

With a total of 368 medals, Norway is the most successful medal-winning nation in Winter Olympic history with its tally including 132 gold medals, 125 silver and 111 bronze.

Where is the Winter Olympics?

The Winter Olympic Games 2022 will be held in Beijing.

The Chinese capital will be the first city in the world to have hosted both Summer and Winter Olympics with Beijing previously hosting the Olympic Summer Games in back 2008.

The iconic Bird’s Nest Stadium will be the focus of the world again as it was in 2008 as the opening and closing ceremonies of this event will take place at the venue.

In total, the Games will feature 109 events across 15 disciplines in seven different sports, including seven events which will see their first ever Olympic champions crowned.

When does the 2022 Winter Olympics start?

The Olympic Winter Games in Beijing will officially open on February 4, 2022, and begin two days prior with preliminary games in curling and ice hockey.

The Games will come to an end at the closing ceremony, scheduled for February 20, 2022.

What TV channel is the Winter Olympics on? What about live streaming?

Coverage of the Winter Olympics will be shared between subscription service Eurosport and free-to-air BBC TV.

BBC Sport will screen 300 hours of live coverage across BBC One and BBC Two, with lots of extra action available on BBC iPlayer, Red Button and the BBC Sport website.

Eurosport subscribers be be able to stream the action online or via the Eurosport Player app.

What time will the Winter Olympics be on in the UK?

Similar to the Tokyo Olympics in the summer, Beijing is eight hours ahead of the UK, meaning it's late nights if you want to catch the live action.

Coverage will start soon after midnight GMT and will usually be done by around 3pm.

What is the official mascot of the Winter Olympics?

A giant panda named Bing Dwen Dwen (冰墩墩) is the official mascot of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

“Bing” means ice and also symbolises purity and strength, and “Dwen Dwen” represents children. The mascot embodies the strength and willpower of athletes and will help to promote the Olympic spirit.
