When does the summer transfer window open and is there a loan window?

The transfer window is set to slam shut at 11pm GMT on Tuesday, January 31 as Premier League clubs scramble to complete any last-minute signings.

Leeds United have welcomed Max Wober, Georginio Rutter, Weston McKennie and Diogo Monteiro this month in what has been a bumper window for Jesse Marsch's side. Reports over a late move for Roma's Nicolo Zaniolo emerged, yet if a deal cannot be reached ahead of the deadline - the 23-year-old will remain in Italy for the rest of this campaign.

Barring any late deal sheets being submitted, Tuesday's 11pm deadline will see Leeds and other Premier League clubs conclude their business for the remainder of the season. The only exception is the Premier League and EFL 'emergency loan rule', which allows clubs to sign a goalkeeper on loan outside of the window if all the shot-stoppers in their first team squad are unavailable due to injury or suspension.

So, with just hours remaining in the January window - we have looked at when the summer 2023 transfer window could open for English clubs?

When does the summer transfer window open?

As yet, there has not been an exact date announced for the summer. However, last season the window opened on June 10 for English clubs to complete domestic transfers, with the window fully opening on July 1 for international deals.

Last year the summer window closed on September 1, giving clubs approximately three months to conclude their business.

Is there a loan window?

Like the regular transfer window, the deadline for loan deals is also 11pm GMT on Tuesday, January 31.

Clubs will not be able to register any new players after that - even if they are only arriving on loan - unless they are currently without a club, otherwise known as a free agent.

That goes for Premier League and EFL teams, with both windows closing at the same time as the general transfer window.
