Following the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the nation is preparing to return to normality.
King Charles III previously announced last week that today, September 19, would be a bank holiday, allowing millions of Brits to pay their respects during the service.
It has been 11 days since the Queen passed away, and day days since the beginning of the national period of mourning.
This mourning period is now coming to an end but there are still some major changes on the horizon.
Here is everything you need to know about the coming weeks.
When does the national period of mourning end?
The national period of mourning officially lasts for 10 days, commencing the day after the Queen’s passing on September 8.
The Queen’s state funeral marks the end of the mourning period, with services, processions and events happening throughout the day (September 19).
It will culminate with a private ceremony for the Royal Family at St George VI’s Chapel at Windsor at 7.30pm.
This will be a deeply personal service away from the cameras.
Once this is complete and the Queen is buried in her final resting place, the national period of mourning will coming to a close.
In turn, the nation will return to normalcy on Tuesday, September 20, with shops, supermarkets, GPs and everything else open as usual following the bank holiday.
What happens after the national period of mourning?
Now that the national period of mourning is coming to a close, the UK will start returning back to normal.
The next big event on the horizon is the official coronation of King Charles III, which will likely take place in Westminster Abbey, just like the funeral.
Even though the King was appointed immediately after the Queen’s death, no date has been set for the official coronation.
The UK government and Buckingham Palace will also work to start the change of crown logos, flags, stamps and currency.
All of the UK’s money will change to have the King’s face on it, rather than the Queen, the same is true for stamps.
The ER insignia will also need to be changed.
No dates have been set on then any of this will take place, though the government will likely start outlining strategy in the coming weeks.
