When Does Spotify Wrapped Come Out This Year & When Does It Actually Stop Counting Streams?

As 2024 draws closer to completion (eek!), there are plenty of end-of-year traditions creeping up and reminding us of the unstoppable passage of time. Of these, one reigns supreme as the dominant cultural phenomenon — Spotify Wrapped. But when does it come out this year?

The day of reckoning is nigh, folks. It is almost time once again for Spotify Wrapped to drop, where Spotify’s users across the world must face the truth about what listening habits they had over the last 12 months.

Whether you’ve secretly had Taylor Swift on repeat all year, or you listened to “HOT TO GO!” by Chappel Roan 320 times in one day like me, the truth will all be revealed soon.

Say goodbye to your standard Instagram feeds, and prepare yourselves for the annual onslaught of Story after Story of other people’s listening habits.

So when does Spotify Wrapped come out this year? And also, when does it actually stop counting your streams?

Time to face the music!

When does Spotify Wrapped come out this year?

As anyone with a chocolate advent calendar already knows, Christmas is a month away. Unfortunately for the Spotify Wrapped girlies, not only is there no advent calendar for Spotify Wrapped day because there is no confirmed date.

The cheeky buggers at Spotify enjoy keeping everyone on their toes and not confirming exactly what date Wrapped will drop, so that it’s a fun surprise for users around the globe.

But because we are people of science, if we analyse past drop dates for Spotify Wrapped then we can see a pattern.

Previous release dates for Spotify Wrapped

  • 2016 — Tuesday, December 6
  • 2017 — Wednesday, December 6
  • 2018 — Wednesday, December 5
  • 2019 — Thursday, December 5
  • 2020 — Wednesday, December 2
  • 2021 — Wednesday, December 1
  • 2022 — Wednesday, November 30
  • 2023 — Thursday, November 30

Evidently, Spotify Wrapped typically drops between the last week of November and the first week of December each year.

Plus, it looks like it usually comes out on a Wednesday, sometimes Thursday.

So based on the patterns outlined above, it is likely that Spotify Wrapped could come out on Wednesday, December 4, or the day after.

That’s next week! Rejoice!

When does Spotify stop counting streams for Wrapped?

Contrary to popular belief, Spotify confirmed this year that it does not stop counting its user’s streams after October 31 each year.

In a post to the Spotify News social media page on X, the music streaming giant shared a cute Halloween-themed graphic to stamp out the rumour.

This news is devastating to many people who believed that come November they were able to listen to whatever music they wanted without fearing it would show up on their Wrapped at the end of the year.

Jokes on them, it does.

And this isn’t a recent change either, with Spotify also trying to put an end to the Wives’ Tale back in 2022 as well.

As for when Spotify truly stops the count, the official date has never been confirmed. However, it is likely to be sometime in the weeks leading up to the early December/late November release.

Should I like my crush’s Spotify Wrapped Instagram Story?

Of course. Shooters shoot. How else are you going to bond with them over your shared love of the Wicked soundtrack?

Best of luck to you, Spotify Wrapped friends. May your top five artists be aesthetic, and your Instagram Story receive all the attention it deserves.
