When does Holding start on ITV and what is the show about?

ITV’s four part adaptation of Graham Norton’s bestselling novel Holding is bringing more crime back to the small screen.

The cast includes Game of Thrones’ Conleth Hill, who plays PJ Collins, as well as Home Alone’s Brenda Fricker, Derry Girls’ Siobhán McSweeney, Peaky Blinders’ Charlene McKenna, Elizabeth is Missing’s Helen Behan and Father Ted’s Pauline McLynn.

Set in West Cork, Ireland, the show marks Fricker’s return to television alongside Oliver award winning actor Hill, who plays local police officer Sergeant PJ Collins. A man who hides from people in his community and fills his days with comfort food and half-hearted police work. He might be loveable but certainly not the best at his job.

Here’s everything you need to know about Holding on ITV.

When does Holding start on ITV?

ITV has confirmed Holding will premiere on Monday, March 14 at 9pm. Holding was released as a novel back in 2016.

What is Holding about?

The first episode follows Sergeant PJ Collins, who has a genuine crime to solve when human remains are found in a sleepy Irish village. The gruesome discovery eventually ripples through the community, which leads to the exposure of a lifetime of secrets. Collins connects with the village he has tried so hard to avoid.

Fricker plays Lizzie Meany, a shy presence in PJ’s life who has been battling her own demons and secrets as PJ discovers. McSweeney plays the vulnerable and messy Bríd Riordan, who was due to marry Tommy before his disappearance.

Alarm bells start ringing because McKenna, who plays the youthful and stuck Evelyn Ross, also loved Tommy. Did the two women who are the heart of the community have anything to do with his disappearance? You will have to watch Holding to find out.
