BBC sitcom Ghosts is making its return this month with a brand new six-part series. Charlotte Ritchie (Call the Midwife, Fresh Meat) and Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Horrible Histories, Stath Lets Flats) are reprising their roles as young couple Alison and Mike, who unexpectedly inherited Button House, which they later discover is also home to a number of ghosts.
It has been hugely popular with viewers since launching back in 2019, with the third series averaging 4.4 million viewers, making it the BBC’s biggest returning comedy series of 2021. It was announced that the sitcom would be returning for a fourth instalment back in December 2021, with the show's creators saying they were "thrilled" and that the couldn't wait "to share the next chapter".
In the fourth series Alison and Mike open the B&B in the gatehouse at Button House and the couple are said to be "determined to get the very best reviews". The synopsis reads: "As Alison becomes consumed by the demands of the more difficult guests and Mike works tirelessly to ensure they provide 5-star entertainment, the Ghosts face a startling event that that will change their lives/deaths forever. A stroke of terrible bad luck threatens the future of Button House."

When does Ghosts series four start on BBC?
The first episode of the fourth series of Ghosts will be broadcast from 8.50pm on Friday, September 23 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, following the Strictly Come Dancing launch show. You can get a glimpse of the new series in the trailer below:
There are six episodes in total and the series is expected to run each Friday from 8.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. All episodes are 30 minutes in length.
For fans of the series, you can also tune in to the new podcast 'Inside… Ghosts'. It will be available from 23 September on BBC Sounds following each episode of Ghosts. You can watch all previous series one to three over on the BBC iPlayer.
