When does Amazon Prime Day end?

Mother sitting on sofa with teen daughters, they are all looking at a phone, doing some online shopping.

If you're a parent who loves to bag a bargain for your family (or a treat for yourself), then you'll want to know when Amazon Prime Day ends, so you can grab what you want while the discounts are around.

Amazon Prime Day is an annual sale that offers thousands of discounted prices - just for Prime members. If you're not already a Prime member, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial. You'll get to enjoy all the perks of being a Prime member throughout your free trial, too.

Not a fan of Prime Day? You might change your mind after reading our expert take on whether Amazon Prime Day is worth it. If you do want to take advantage of the offers, make sure you know how to find the best deals in an Amazon sale.

When does Amazon Prime Day 2024 end?

Amazon Prime Day ended at 11.59pm on Wednesday 17 July 2024. Available exclusively to Prime members, the bulk of the Prime Day deals landed at 00.01am on Tuesday 16 July. As with all Amazon sales, he deals change throughout the sale period, and there's no guarantee that an item you want will have the same discount (or any discount, for that matter) for the whole 48-hour window.

Do Amazon Prime Day deals change each day?

Yes, Prime Day deals change throughout the two-day online sale. This is where many people get caught out as it's easy to assume that something you spot on sale during Prime Day will still be there to buy when you come back to pop it in your basket and check out. Nope! Stock levels fluctuate and therefore many Prime Day deals end when a product sells out. For that reason, you should snap up a good deal when you spot it in case everyone has beaten you to it by the time you come back to buy it. This is especially true of lightning deals which are time-limited blink-and-you'll-miss-it sales that drop with short notice throughout Amazon Prime Day, offering massive savings for those who are fast enough to snap them up.

Bag extra savings with Prime Day vouchers

Another great perk of Prime Day is vouchers, where you can secure extra savings. If you spot a voucher you need to click on it to save the discount, then add the item to your basket before checkout.

You might also notice vouchers and discounts under the price of the item you’re looking at. To secure the deal, you will need to tick the voucher for it to be added to whatever you’re buying.

And here's the best bit: vouchers aren’t just available during the sale. You can find them on Amazon throughout the year and they are a great way to save some pennies.

How long does Prime Day last?

The official Prime Day sale lasts for 48 hours - this year it started at 00.01am on Tuesday 16 July and ended at 11.59pm on Wednesday 17 July. The majority of the deals and biggest discounts tend to be released during this period.

But it's worth remembering that Amazon has deals available all the time, and started releasing early Prime Day deals in the lead up to the official start of the sale. Discounts will still be available after the sale too, but likely not as big, or as many as during Prime Day.

Is Amazon Prime Day worth it?

If you find something you would have purchased full price on offer for Prime Day, then it's a no brainer as to whether Prime Day is worth it. It's also a good idea to think about products that your family uses year round - like washing tabs, washing up liquid and toilet rolls - to see if you can save some money by stocking up on Amazon during the sale. Similarly, Prime Day is a great time to stock up on gifts for your loved ones, which can save you money over the course of the year.

If you (or someone you know) are expecting or have just had a baby, you can find loads of baby gear on sale for Prime Day, so it's a great opportunity to stock up. For those with a newborn, Prime Day is especially handy as you can browse and shop from the comfort of your own home.

How often is Prime Day?

Prime Day is an annual event that usually takes place in July each year. The first one took place in 2015 to celebrate the mega-retailer's 20th anniversary. Originally a one-day online sale, Amazon extended it to a 48-hour event due to its popularity with shoppers.

But while there is technically only one Amazon Prime Day a year, Amazon does have two other major sales that work in a very similar way, just with a different name. At the end of November each year, Amazon has its Black Friday sale, which is at least four days long, running from Black Friday, over the weekend, and culminating at the end of Cyber Monday. Deals often drop earlier than Black Friday, so you can end up with a week's worth of bargains up for grabs. But that's not all. Since October 2022, Amazon has held a Prime Day type event in October, acting as a precursor to the big Black Friday sale. In 2022, it was called the Early Access Sale, then Prime Big Deal Days in 2023. It's not yet been confirmed if that will return in October 2024, or what the sale will be called.

When is the next Amazon Prime Day?

While Amazon hasn't confirmed its roster of sales for the rest of 2024, it's likely that the next Prime Day event will fall in October - if the last couple of years are anything to go by. It might not be called Prime Day, but it's likely to work in exactly the same way - 48 hours of ever-changing discounts for Prime members.

Do you have to be a Prime member to shop the Prime Day sale?

The Prime Day sale is a major perk of being a Prime member, and so you will need to have an active membership to take advantage of the deals and offers at hand.

But if you're not ready to commit to a monthly (£8.99) or annual subscription (£95), then the good news is you can sign up to a 30 day free trial that will give you access to all of the perks of Prime membership (including Prime Day discounts), for free.
