When does All Star Musicals start on ITV and which celebrities are performing?

It's time to find out which celebrities have what it takes for musical theatre as All Star Musicals returns to our screens. Airing on ITV, this 2022 special follows famous faces as they take musical masterclasses in the hopes of being crowned champion.

The celebs will be given a helping hand from West End choreographers and vocal coaches, Elaine Paige OBE, Samantha Barks (Frozen, Les Miserables) and Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton, Aladdin). The team will prepare them for a big West End worthy final performance, complete with a live orchestra and backed by a professional West End ensemble.

The stars will hope to wow the crowd as they perform hits from popular musicals, including Les Miserables, Frozen, 42nd Street and Hamilton. Host John Barrowman is taking presenting duties back from Fern Britton, who hosted the 2021 Christmas special.

On the night, the cast of The Phantom of the Opera will put on a special performance to mark 35 years on stage in London's West End. ITV announced the celeb line up back in February, but now the show is upon us, it's time to refresh our memories on who we will be watching.

When does All Star Musicals start?

All Star Musicals airs on ITV on Sunday, April 3 2022 at 7.30pm. The winner will be decided that same night.

Which celebrities are performing on All Star Musicals?

Alex Beresford

Seasoned weather presenter Alex Beresford, who's often seen on Good Morning Britain. He recently moved from ITV's regional West Country team to the national team.

Beresford said he has mixed emotions towards his appearance on the show: “There’s a fine line between panic and excitement, but I can’t wait to challenge myself and feel the thrill of performing a musical number in front of a crowd.

The acoustics in my shower are very sympathetic.”

Jacqueline Jossa

Actress Jacqueline Jossa is most well-known for portraying Lauren Branning in EastEnders, up until 2018.

She said: “I am so excited to take part in All Star Musicals, it's thrilling and terrifying, and I can't wait to tackle a musical number that everyone knows and loves. My girls are going to love seeing me up on that stage!”

Lisa George

Another star swapping the soap opera for the stage is Lisa George, who's played Beth Tinker in Corrie since 2011.

George says the show is a dream come true, 'both professionally and personally.' She added: “The team have been so supportive and nurturing and I can't wait to take to the stage.”

Michaela Strachan

BBC presenter has seen her fair share of wildlife, presenting The Really Wild Show and Countryfile for over a decade all together.

She's a huge musical theatre fan, so this is right up her street. She added: “'As a wildlife presenter, I don't often get the chance to swap the walking boots and outdoor gear for something sparkly! I’m attempting to do something I haven’t done for over 30 years, spoiler alert, it's not the can can!”

Colin Salmon

Actor Colin Salmon's big break came when he played Charles Robinson in three James Bond films. He said: “Who knew it would be so much fun learning to master the Master.

Danny Care

Completing the lineup is rugby star Danny Care. Swapping the scrum for stardom will certainly push him out of his comfort zone.

He continued, saying: “I've always dreamt of performing in a musical and having the chance to work with so many talented people as part of the process has been amazing.”
