Going into the 2023 Super Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is in a unique position with his current team facing off against his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the NFL season finale.
In fact, he’s now one of just seven coaches to take two different franchises to the Super Bowl, and, per NFL.com, he’s the only one to take two teams to four straight conference title games.
Reid is obviously an extremely talented and accomplished NFL coach who’s looking to add a second Super Bowl victory to his resume. But before the 2023 Super Bowl kicks off, here’s a brief look at his history with the Eagles and the Chiefs.
His first NFL head coaching job was with the Eagles, and he coached in Philadelphia from 1999 through the 2012 season. He led the Eagles to Super Bowl XXXIX (in 2005), along with five NFC championship games and six NFC East titles.
But in 2012, the team finished with a 4-12 record, which remains Reid’s fewest number of wins in his 24 NFL seasons as a head coach. That’s when the Eagles went looking for a change and opted not to renew Reid’s contract.
The Chiefs hired Reid on January 7, 2013, and since then, the team has finished with at least 11 wins eight times and only once has it finished with a single-digit number in the win column (KC went 9-7 in 2014). He led the team to a Super Bowl LIV victory over the San Francisco 49ers in 2020, and now, he and the Chiefs are looking to reclaim their world champion title.
Recently, Reid was asked about both franchises, and he delivered a very classy answer.

He said:
“It’s a great organization. I had 14 years there, man. I loved every minute of it. I’ve been 10 years in Kansas City — loved every minute of that. I’m proud of some of these old guys for the Eagles, I’m proud of my guys for the Chiefs. Let’s go!”
