When Cyriel Dessers will seal Rangers transfer as big signing announcement hinges on one key detail

Rangers expect to finalise a deal for Cyriel Dessers in the next 24 hours.

The Ibrox side have agreed a fee of around £4.5 million with add-ons with Cremonese. Dessers has also agreed personal terms on a four-year contract and was last night putting the finishing touches to his medical. If that gets the green light then the Nigerian international will become Michael Beale’s latest summer recruit.

Dessers has been on the Ibrox radar for some time and was their top signing target. Rangers have been scouting him since his time in Belgium with Genk and then on-loan at PSV Eindhoven. Beale has already signed Dujon Sterling, Kieron Dowell, Abdallah Sima and Jack Butland. The Rangers boss has vowed to strengthen his squad further. A deal is in place to sign Ecuadorian midfielder Jose Cifuentes although a fee with Los Angeles is unlikely to be thrashed out until later in the window.

PSV Eindhoven striker Danilo was the subject of a failed bid before they got Dessers. They could go back in for him but Rangers will need to try and cut some of their existing first-team squad first.

Italian side Leece have been linked with Ianis Hagi but it depends if they have the funds to make the move. Leece’s sporting director Leo Corvino previously worked with the Romanian international at Fiorentina.

Winger Scott Wright had attracted English Championship interest but so far nothing has been agreed, Beale has taken a number of youngsters up to train with his first-team and has recently added Bailey Rice after he returned from Euros action with Scotland.

Former Rangers star Calvin Bassey looks set to join Brighton. The Light Blues are unlikely to benefit as their sale to Ajax only entitled them to a percentage of any profits. The Dutch side paid £19 million last summer but look likely to cut their losses and accept £2 million less.

Meanwhile, Rangers women's coach Malky Thomson is currently back coaching the Rangers academy. He has been assisting B team boss David McCallum in recent days.
