"Sonic the Hedgehog 3" was a massive hit in theaters at the end of 2024. Granted, that's not a big surprise; the video game adaptation was expected to be a hit the minute they announced that Keanu Reeves would be appearing as Shadow the Hedgehog.
If you've played the games, you know this is a big deal; Shadow's arrival usually means things are about to get serious. And if you haven't, he's basically a darker, brooding counterpart to our favorite speedster (voiced by Ben Schwartz).
Of course, these aren't the only well-known voices or faces who returned for the third installment in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise. James Marsden is back as the ever-patient Tom, Colleen O'Shaughnessey is still killing it as Tails, and Idris Elba remains absolutely perfect as Knuckles.

Where will 'Sonic 3' stream?
"Sonic the Hedgehog 3" is already available on Premium Video-on-Demand (PVOD), meaning you can buy or rent "Sonic 3" now from Amazon, Apple and other digital storefronts.
If you've instead been waiting for "Sonic 3" to specifically come to a streaming service, you're in luck. While we knew for some time that it would eventually make its way to Paramount Plus, we've not had a precise "Sonic 3" streaming date. Until now.
'Sonic 3' Paramount Plus streaming date
After its impressive theatrical run (grossing over $475 million worldwide), "Sonic 3" came to Paramount's streamer on Feb. 18, meaning "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" is now available to stream on Paramount Plus.
If you're reading this as we update our article, that means you can watch the Blue Blur duke it out with Shadow from the comfort of your own home on Paramount Plus starting tomorrow.
This is just a couple of days earlier than our initial guess. Based on a 60-day wait, we expected "Sonic 3" to debut on Paramount Plus on or around Thursday, Feb. 20.
What is 'Sonic 3' about?
"Sonic 3," or its full name "Sonic the Hedgehog 3", explores the origins of Shadow the Hedgehog, a powerful new antagonist whose abilities surpass anything Sonic and his friends have encountered before.
Drawing inspiration from games like "Sonic Adventure 2" and "Shadow the Hedgehog", the third adventure in the "Sonic" animated film series looks to be chock-full of more fan service tailored to those who can't get enough of the Blue Blur in their lives.
It brings together Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails as they face their greatest challenge yet, forcing them to consider an uneasy alliance with their long-time nemesis, Doctor Robotnik. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, the scrappy little team must work together to confront Shadow's devastating powers. And his gun. Yes, Shadow wields a gun, if you're unfamiliar with the character.
This installment features returning stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, James Marsden as Tom, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, and Idris Elba as Knuckles, while welcoming newcomers Krysten Ritter and Jorma Taccone to the cast. Oh, and there are two Jim Carreys running around, so take that for what you will.
You'll also be pleased to know that it won't be the last "Sonic" movie, either; a fourth movie is due to hit theaters on March 19, 2027.
