When Arsenal will play Sporting CP in Europa League last-16 as fixture congestion confirmed

Arsenal will face Portuguese side Sporting CP in the Europa League round of 16 following Friday's draw.

The Gunners face Ruben Amorim's side after they defeated Midtjylland in the knockout play-off round last night. Sporting dropped down from the Champions League after finishing third in their group earlier in the season.

Arsenal qualified for the last 16 as group winners after finishing above PSV Eindhoven, Bodo/Glimt and FC Zurich.

Mikel Arteta's side could not have faced Manchester United in the round of 16 given that the two teams are both from the same association. If both Premier League sides progress into the quarter-finals, then the Gunners could face Erik ten Hag's side for the third time this season after facing them twice in the Premier League already.

The full Europa League round of 16 draw is below:

Union Berlin vs Union Saint-Gilloise

Sevilla vs Fenerbahce SK

Juventus vs SC Freiburg

Bayer Leverkusen vs Ferencvarosi TC

Sporting CP vs Arsenal

Manchester United vs Real Betis

AS Roma vs Real Sociedad

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Feyenoord

When will the ties be played?

Arsenal will face Sporting next month. The first-leg of the tie, which will be played at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, will take place on Thursday, March 9.

The return leg in north London will follow the week after (Thursday, March 16).

What does Arsenal's fixture list look like?

The trip to Portugal will come after the Gunners host Bournemouth. Arsenal will travel to Fulham the following Sunday - inbetween the Europa League ties - before welcoming Crystal Palace to the Emirates Stadium after the second leg.

When is the draw for the Europa League quarter-final?

The draw for the next round of the Europa League will take place on Friday 17 March in Switzerland - the day after the return leg with Sporting CP.
