When are the bank holidays in 2022? Full list including Queen's Jubilee four day weekend

The Queen marked 70 years since her accession this year and will celebrate the momentous occasion with a four-day festive event. Called the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, the celebration will see the UK enjoy an extra bank holiday.

And to make it happen, things have been moved about this year. It means in 2022 the spring bank holiday, which usually takes place in late May, has been moved to June. It will be followed by an extra day off to mark the Queen's unprecedented anniversary.

It means the next bank holiday in the calendar is the spring date which now falls on Thursday, June 2 . The Platinum Jubilee, meanwhile, is being celebrated on Friday, June 3 .

After that, the bank holidays left in England and Wales are the summer bank holiday on August 29, Boxing Day, and Christmas Day. While bank holidays in Scotland and Northern Ireland will slightly differ, for example, the summer bank holiday is earlier in Scotland, landing on August 1.

Explaining the Platinum Jubilee, the official royal website said: "On February 6 this year Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

"To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2, to Sunday, June 5. The bank holiday will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.

"The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service."
