When and where Ross Stewart could play for Scotland this week

Sunderland and League One top scorer, Ross Stewart earned his first call up to the Scottish national team last week. The 25-yeard-old former Ross County striker has 22 goals already this season and Steve Clarke has decided to take a look at him in the two friendlies Scotland play during the international break.

The Tartan Army had been set for a crunch World Cup qualifying play off semi-final against Ukraine but this match has been postponed due to Russia's invasion of the former Soviet state. Instead, Stewart could feature in friendlies against Poland and Austria or Wales.

The Poland match friendly has been arranged following Russia's expulsion from the World Cup. This meant Poland were given a bye to advance to the final of their play-off and were free on the day when Scotland were due to play Ukraine. The game - taking place on Thursday March 24, is being hosted at Hampden Park and will kick off at 19.45 BST. It will be live on Sky Sports Football.

The second friendly will be held on Tuesday March 29 and will be against the loser of the Wales v Austria World Cup qualifying play off semi-final. This will also be a home fixture for Scotland and will kick off at 19.45 BST.

The other strikers called up by Clarke are Stoke City's Jacob Brown, Southampton's Che Adams and Queen's Park Rangers' Lyndon Dykes. The latter two have been involved in several squads now and featured at Euro 2020, whilst Brown received his first cap in 2021. Stewart will hope to make his debut in this break and impress enough to gain another chance ahead of the World Cup in December. The striker is the only League One representative in the squad.
