When and where it will be hottest in Wales this weekend

The mercury is soaring in Wales with experts predicting scorching temperatures in the coming days. Many love the sweltering weather but still others find it uncomfortable – especially when it comes to sleeping. You can read the best tactics for falling asleep in hot weather here.

To help you plan how to make the most of the sunshine WalesOnline has put together a guide to when where will be hottest in Wales. To do this we have spoken to the expert meteorologists at the Met Office.

Saturday

According to a Met Office spokesman the south of Wales is the area most likely to see the highest temperatures in Wales. He said: "We've got an area of high pressure across the country and that is keeping cloud mostly well at bay for a good good portion of Wales. A lot of strong sunshine really is the is the name of the game over the course of the weekend.

"In terms of the terms of temperatures for today we're looking at highs of 26C across south Wales in areas like Cardiff. Here we are expecting 26C, perhaps 27C. as an outside. But further north a little bit fresher with temperatures into the into the sort of mid-20s. So mid Wales it will be about 24C and then in north Wales we're looking at temperatures around 20C to 21C."

Sunday

This day will be the hottest of the weekend with Cardiff and Newport seeing the highest temperatures. "Tomorrow we're actually expecting temperatures to dial up a notch," said the Met Office spokesman. "For example in Cardiff perhaps around 28C in some in sort of favoured spots. Everywhere south of the Brecon Beacons could see high temperatures.

"Further north in mid Wales we're looking at 26-27C. But we are still seeing slightly fresher conditions on the coast of north Wales at between20-23C." Bangor will likely be the coolest part of Wales on Sunday.

How long will the hot weather last in Wales?

The hot weather won't end with the weekend with Monday likely to be the hottest day. "On Monday I think Cardiff may be around 28C – perhaps maybe around 29C might just be possible," said the Met Office spokesman.

However it will become progressively cooler throughout the week. The Met Office spokesman said: "We're looking like the temperatures are going to gradually kind of ebb away from Tuesday onwards. We're expecting a cold front during the course of sort of Tuesday and Wednesday so there is going to be cloudy skies. We might actually see some outbreaks of rain in the middle of the week though we might see temperatures recovering towards next weekend."
