The Carabao Cup is back in action but when will the semi final draw take place? Find out everything you need to know below.
Since 1960, every team from England’s top four divisions have competed for the Carabao Cup – formerly being called the Carling Cup and League Cup.
Manchester City have dominated the competition in recent years, winning the trophy in four consecutive seasons from 2018 to 2021.
However, Liverpool and Manchester United have reigned supreme in the last three years, with the Reds winning the trophy in 2022 and 2024.
The Red Devils ended a seven-year wait for silverware in 2023, as Erik ten Hag won his first trophy in England with a win over Newcastle in the final.
Despite complaints from several teams, primarily the ‘big six’ the Carabao Cup semi finals will be played across two legs and only the final will have extra time.
This means that the semi final matches will go straight to penalties if the score is level after 180 minutes of football.
When Is The Carabao Cup Semi Final Draw?
The Carabao Cup semi final draw will take place on Thursday 19th December, at around 10:30pm after Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United.
Ange Postecoglou will be looking to keep his strong record of winning a trophy in his second season and securing a trophy after a few months as Manchester United could be huge fort Ruben Amorim.
Arsenal booked their place in the semi-finals with a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace, spearheaded by a Gabriel Jesus hat-trick.
Newcastle will also be in the hat following a 3-1 win over Brentford and Liverpool took a step towards retaining their trophy after beating Southampton 2-1.
What Channel Is The Draw On?
The draw will take place on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Ultra HRD as Mark Chapman will host the event alongside Jamie Redknapp and Izzy Christiansen.
All four of the semi-finalists will be given a number and will find out if they can gain the advantage of a home tie in the second-leg.
When Will The Carabao Cup Semi Finals Be Played?
The Carabao Cup semi finals will take place on January 6th and February 3rd, as the competition requires two legs for this stage.
These dates could cause some concern for any teams competing in Europe, as the Champions League and Europa League begin to heat up in February.
