When Alexander Isak could make his Newcastle United debut ahead of '£59million' transfer

Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak. The Swedish frontman has arrived at the Magpies' training ground for his medical ahead of a reported '£59million' move to St. James' Park.

The Toon are hopeful of confirming the deal within the next 48 hours, but time is of the essence if Isak is to feature against Wolves this weekend. Nonetheless, even if the club are able to beat the 12pm deadline on Friday, it's unlikely Howe would thrust the striker into the deep end.

Callum Wilson's injury has left the Magpies short of options, with Chris Wood leading the line against Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup. The New Zealand international could fill the void against Wolves, but the arrival of Isak is set provide further competition for places.

If we've learnt anything from Howe's tenure at the club so far, it's that he'll give new signings time to adjust before being thrown in at the deep end. Bruno Guimaraes was made to bide his time before starting in a black and white shirt, while Sven Botman was also given time to adjust.

The Dutch youth international has spent pre-season with the club, allowing Howe to get his message across. However, with the short turnaround between Friday's 12pm deadline and the trip to Molineux, it seems more likely that Liverpool on August 31 would be a more realistic time frame.
