Exam season returns this year for GCSE and A Level students for the first time since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Students will be allowed some adaptations in recognition that the past two years have not been normal and their education may have been affected. Support measures include supplying advance information about what the exams will focus on. That advanced information was made public in February.
But there will be changes to the grading following higher results in the past two years, when teachers marked their students' assessed work.

The Department for Education says: "As we return to exams, we want to get back to the pre-pandemic standard, but in the interests of fairness, Ofqual (who take the decisions on grading) won’t do so in one jump.
"Instead, 2022 will be a transition year to reflect that we are in a pandemic recovery period and students’ education has been disrupted. In 2022 the aim, therefore, will be to move grading to a point close to midway between 2021 and pre-pandemic profiles."
So, as GCSEs, AS Levels and A Levels return to normal, here are they key dates.
When do GCSE exams start and finish?
The Joint Council for Qualifications has published a timetable for exam season 2022.
The first GCSE exam will be held on Monday May 16, 2022. The last GCSE exam will be held by Tuesday June 28, 2022 at the end of the six week exam period.
Most exams will finish the week before that, but the week commencing June 27 has "contingency days" for any exams that have to be cancelled.
When do AS Level Exams start and finish?
AS Levels are due to start on Monday May 16, 2022. As with GCSEs, exams will be finished by Tuesday June 28.
When do A Level exams start and finish?
A Levels exams will start on Monday May 23, 2022. Again, they should be finished by Tuesday June 28.
When are GCSE, AS Level and A Level results day?
GCSE results will be released on Thursday 25 August 2022. AS and A Level students will get their grades on Thursday August 18, 2022. AS and A-Level results day is on August 18, 2022.
