WhatsApp 'working on' new feature we've all been waiting for

WhatsApp could soon roll out a feature many of us have been waiting for.

If reports are true, the messaging platform's two billion users will soon be able to edit sent messages. WhatsApp blog WABetaInfo said the app is "now working on letting users edit their text messages for a future update of the app".

Sharing a screenshot appearing to show an "edit" option, the blog continued: "Probably there won’t be an edit history to check previous versions of edited messages but since this feature is under development, their plans may change before releasing the feature. In addition, details about the time window to let people edit their messages are unknown at the moment".

The messaging app is subject to regular updates. One teased recently suggested users of the app will soon be able to "react" to messages, with similar functions already available on Facebook, Instagram and iMessage. Reports earlier this year said iPhone and iPad users of WhatsApp will soon be given the option to "manage react notifications" within their settings - suggesting the react function is not far away.

There are other new features predicted to be added to the messaging platform in 2022, according to 91mobiles.com. These include hiding your "last seen" from specific contacts, Instagram reels, and a "read later" folder.

There are currently more than 40 million WhatsApp users in the UK.
