WhatsApp will be blocked on certain iphones by app giants from today

A number of people who use WhatsApp through their Apple iPhone will see the application disappear from their phone, if they don't upgrade their handset soon.

Those who still use iPhone 5 and 5C's will be affected by an iOS switch, that will prevent them from using the messenger app from Monday, October 24 onwards. The Express reports that it emerged in 2022 that the Meta-owned chatting app would stop supporting these iPhones, and in-app users received an update about this back in May this year.

This update gave people the change to switch out their handset for something more upgraded, in order to continue to use the application. However, the deadline has now hit, and any iPhone 5 or 5C user will be caught out this week if they haven't upgraded.

The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C will no longer be able to run WhatsApp as the chat app is dropping support for iOS 10 and iOS 11. This is important as these two phones cannot upgrade past those versions of iOS, therefore they have been left behind in this digital world.

Alerting affected users about the iPhone support change earlier this year, a WhatsApp notification said: "Update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp.

"WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after 24 Oct 2022. Please go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update to get the latest iOS version."

Other devices that could be affected include the iPhone 5S, the 6 and the 6S. However, these devices can be upgraded to iOS 12 - which is still supported by WhatsApp. The minimum specs of WhatsApp are changing as later versions of iOS are needed for new features heading to the app.

So, those still rocking the old-school iPhones will need to catch up with the rest of society, or risk missing out on keeping in contact with their friends and family. Visit the WhatsApp website here for further details.
