WhatsApp releases editing update for iPhone users after years of fans asking for it

iPhone users who use WhatsApp to stay in touch with friends and family should make sure they update the app to make the most of its new editing features.

The Meta-owned Instant Messaging (IM) service has recently began rolling out an update which allows users to edit messages after sending, but you can only do it should you have version 23.12.76 installed on your device.

Once upgraded, you'll have 15 minutes to make changes to messages, giving users the option to eradicate any awkward typos and embarrassing mis-sends. You can also add emojis, expand your conversations, or completely change what was initially sent, should you have a sudden change of heart.

Once installed, you'll find the option to edit messages by holding down the text you wish to change. A list of options will then appear, including the Edit button - which you can simply tap, before hitting the blue tick when your changes have been made.

The Mirror reports that in a blog post to explain the update, WhatsApp wrote: "For the moments when you make a mistake, or simply change your mind, you can now edit your sent messages. From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats.

"All you need to do is long-press on a sent message and choose ‘Edit’ from the menu for up to fifteen minutes after."

The update was initially announced last month, but many iPhone users have only just begun witnessing the changes now - with WhatsApp confirming the rollout worldwide. To check that you're using the most recent version of the app, head to the App Store and search for WhatsApp.

If a blue message with the word 'Update' shows up, you know that you're missing out on the new features. From there, simply hit the button and make the most of the latest version.
