If you want an added layer of security for your WhatsApp chats, you can password protect the app to avoid prying eyes seeing private messages.
The app already offers end-to-end encrypted messages, meaning your conversations can't be intercepted by hackers. However, you can also add a password to your chats, so even if someone can unlock your phone they won't be able to see your chats on the app.
The app allows you to add either a pin, fingerprint, or face ID to protect the app and stop others accessing your chats. The feature is available on both iOS and Android devices.

In order to use the feature, you need to activate screen lock in the app's settings in order to keep prying eyes away from the app. Here's what you need to do:
- Download the new version (2.19.21) of the app via the App store of Google Play.
- Go to settings (the symbol with the cog).
- Tap 'account'.
- Select 'privacy'.
- Go to the area which says 'screen lock'.
- Swipe the toggle on to activate and select when you want the lock to kick in.
Once you've done all these steps, you'll only be able to open the app with Face ID, fingerprint, or a passcode. However, you'll still be able to answer calls without the password, and you will still be able to reply to messages from notifications if you have this activated.
