What You Need To Know Ahead of Air Products and Chemicals' Earnings Release

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (APD), founded in 1940 and headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, is a global leader in industrial gases and chemical solutions. With a market cap of $63.7 billion, Air Products delivers innovative technologies and services that drive energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence across industries. The company is scheduled to release its Q1 earnings on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Ahead of the event, analysts expect the company to report a profit of $2.84 per share on a diluted basis, up marginally from $2.82 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company beat the consensus estimates in three of the last four quarters while missing the forecast on one other occasion. 

In Q4, the company reported an EPS of $3.56, which topped the consensus estimates by 3.5%. Higher volumes and pricing drove Air Products' Q4 earnings beat, while flat revenues were impacted by lower energy cost pass-through and mixed regional performance.

In fiscal 2025, analysts expect Air Products and Chemicals to report an EPS of $13.05, up 5% from $12.43 in fiscal 2024.

APD stock has underperformed the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX24.2% gains over the past 52 weeks, with shares up 4.6% during this period. However, the stock has outperformed the Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLBmarginal decline over the same time frame.

On Nov. 7, Air Products and Chemicals’ shares closed approximately 2% higher following the release of its Q4 earnings results. The company reported an adjusted EBITDA of $5 billion, a 7% increase, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 41.7%, up 440 basis points. For fiscal year 2025, APD anticipates capital expenditures between $4.5 billion and $5.0 billion.

Analysts’ consensus opinion on APD stock is moderately bullish, with a “Moderate Buy” rating overall. Of 21 analysts covering the stock, 12 advise a “Strong Buy” rating, and nine give a “Hold” rating. The average price target of $344.45 indicates a potential upside of 20.8% from current levels.
