What you need to know about Scotland's national march for Gaza on Saturday

A NATIONAL march for Gaza will take place in Glasgow on Saturday.

Four Scottish organisations have called on protesters to demonstrate across the city.

Glasgow Stop the War Coalition, Justice & Peace Scotland, Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Arsenal and Scottish Trades Union Congress are leading the march.

Protesters are asked to assemble at 10.30am under McLennan Arch, Glasgow Green.

They will proceed through Glasgow towards Queen’s Park Recreational Ground in the southside.

Former first minister Humza Yousaf will then speak at the Queen’s Park rally.

Yousaf was outspoken about the Palestinian cause during his time in office, which ended just five weeks ago.

He will be accompanied by fellow speakers Aamer Anwar, a human rights lawyer, and Ghassan Abu Sittah, rector at the University of Glasgow

Glasgow Stop the War Coalition’s call-to-action poster demands that the UK Government “stop arming Israel,” “stop the spread of war” and encourages “welfare, not warfare.”

UCU, PCS and the Fire Brigades Union are listed as supporters of the march.

On Wednesday, a UN Commission of Inquiry report accused Israel and Hamas of war crimes against civilians.

The new report condemns Israel for “extermination” and “gender persecution targeting Palestinian men and boys.”

A permanent Israel-Gaza ceasefire agreement has not yet been brokered.

The National March for Gaza follows a pro-Palestine blockade at the University of Edinburgh on Friday.
