When you're buying a house, the golden rule for investing your money is "location, location, location".
Different places have individual pulls, whether you're looking for good schools, transport links, a decent nightlife or just want to be near your friends and family.
The ECHO has taken a look at the average house price in a cross section of Merseyside suburbs, using data from Rightmove and Zoopla, and provided a rundown on what this will get you in each area.

The region has a rich selection of locations to choose from, with some of the best nightlife, coastal views and transport links to a number of other cities and airports.
Waterloo
Near the coast and with a raft of great bars, restaurants and schools is Waterloo. Properties here sold for an average of £223,104 over the last year, according to Rightmove, the majority of which were semi-detached homes. House prices here are soaring too, so it could be a good investment. The average was 14% up on the previous year and 20% higher than the 2018 peak.
One of the properties available here is a charming terrace full of character features, like stained glass windows, coving and wrought iron fireplaces. It's in need of some modernisation, but could be the perfect doer upper.
The house on Thorndale Road has four bedrooms and one bathroom and is on the market with Abode for offers over £225,000.
Huyton
The average sale price in Huyton was £168,032 over the last year. The figure is 2% down on the previous 12 months but a 9% jump on the 2019 peak. Most sales were semi-detached homes.
On offer with Whitegates is a quirky terrace on Hey Park for £165,000. The property has a huge open plan living, kitchen and dining space on the ground floor, with three bedrooms upstairs.
Everton
According to Zoopla, the average sold price for properties in Everton over the last year was £101,720. On the market with Yopa is a three-bedroom terrace on Little Heyes Street, off Oakfield Road.
It's in need of a revamp, but the house is solidly built, with high ceilings, a large front reception room, a kitchen/diner and three bedrooms upstairs.
The location is excellent and within reach of the many amenities of Breck Road and County Road, as well as being a stone's throw from the city's world famous football stadiums, Goodison and Anfield.
Dingle
Property in Dingle booming thanks to the area's location. Sold prices were up 11% in the last year, with an overall average price of £129,891. The majority of sales were terraces with an average price of £125,367, while semi-detached homes went for an average of £163,500.
A newly revamped two-bed terrace on Charlecote Street is on the market with Entwistle Green for £130,000.
The whole house has been painted in a neutral white, with grey flooring installed throughout. There's also a new glossy kitchen with marble-look worktops. There's not much of a front or back garden, but the location is second to none, offering excellent links to the city centre.
Birkenhead
Over the water in Birkenhead, properties sold for an overall average price of £176,875 over the last year. The figure is down 7% on last year, but a massive 17% higher than the 2019 peak of £151,283.
The majority of properties sold were terraces, fetching an average of £117,396.
On Allcot Avenue, a terraced home with stunning, rounded bay windows is on the market with Strike for £170,000. It's been immaculatley kept by its owners and even boasts a deceptively large garden with a lawn to the rear. Inside there are two reception rooms, a dining room and a kitche, with three decent-size bedrooms and a family bathroom upstairs.
Meols
Meols is a village on the 'Leisure Peninsula' where houses sold for an avaerage of £373,393 over the last year. The area has it all; great bars and restaurants and its very own beach.
There's a three-bed home on Queens Avenue which could be the perfect renovation project for an investor or a family looking for their forever home. On the market with Jones and Chapman for £325,000 the house comprises a lounge, a huge open plan kitchen/diner, a utility room, wet room and an integrated garage. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom.
A real selling point of this house is the back garden and its raised, decked patio area. Other charming features include the stained-glass windows and tiled fireplaces.
