What Wilfried Zaha has previously said about joining Arsenal amid fresh transfer links

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha is the latest winger to be linked with a summer transfer to Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta's side have already spent heavily this summer, bringing in Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus, Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner for over £110 million combined. Club-record signing Nicolas Pepe is also close to sealing a season-long loan move to Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice, football.london understands - potentially allowing technical director Edu to target a new winger before the window slams shut next month.

One name that has recently been mooted as a potential target is Zaha and the Ivorian international has previously admitted that he wanted to join the north Londoners back in the summer of 2019. Speaking to the Greatest Game Podcast in 2021 about Arsenal's previous interest in, Zaha said: "I had a conversation with the manager. [Unai] Emery was just like, 'We don't really need to go through much'.

"He said he'd seen me play, he knows I can change games at any time and stuff like that. He was like, 'Yeah we'd love to have you' and I was just like, 'Yeah I'd love to come'."

Zaha's comments will leave Arsenal supporters gutted given the club opted to sign Pepe over the Premier League proven talent. In fact, since the former Lille forward joined the Gunners, Zaha has netted 16 more times in the league - including three already this term.
