What Wilfried Gnonto's agent has said about Leeds United transfer amid Everton links

Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto has emerged as the latest name to be linked with a move to Everton this summer.

According to a report from Sky Italia, the recently-relegated forward is attracting interest from the Goodison Park club over a potential switch. The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut season at Elland Road despite Leeds' struggles in the Premier League.

Gnonto scored four goals and provided four assists for Leeds after signing from FC Zurich last summer. Multiple clubs from across Europe have also been linked with a move for him.

Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is looking to leave Crystal Palace, and free agent Moussa Dembele are two forwards who have been linked with the Blues since the end of the season. While Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres is another attacker who has been linked with a move to Everton.

Gnonto can now also be added to that list, but a move to Merseyside would have seen a huge change of heart from the 19-year-old. That’s because speaking back in May, his agent, Claudio Vigorelli, anticipated that his client would continue his path at Leeds and possibly even extend his contract.

"We have all always believed in Gnonto’s qualities. He’s doing very well at Leeds, and I think he’ll stay there; his path is there," he told Calciomercato.

"The club is enthusiastic about his performances; after the season we will probably meet to discuss a possible contract extension, but there will be no problems."

The ECHO also understands that Everton are looking to strengthen at left-back, and manager Sean Dyche may also be in the market for a new backup goalkeeper after Asmir Begovic rejected the club’s offer of a new deal.
