What Virgil van Dijk did to disappointed Inter Milan player when Mohamed Salah scored

Eagle-eyed Liverpool fans were able to spot Virgil van Dijk hugging Inter Milan player Denzel Dumfries once Mohamed Salah scored in the San Siro last night.

Van Dijk and Dumfries are teammates for the Holland national team. Indeed, Liverpool's number four captains the side.

But Dutchman Dumfries was on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat by Liverpool in the first leg of the last 16 Champions League in the San Siro.

Roberto Firmino opened the scoring late in the second half before Salah scored in his eighth consecutive Champions League away match to double Liverpool 's advantage going into the second leg.

And when the ball hit the back of the net, Van Dijk was spotted embracing a glum looking Dumfries as his Liverpool team-mates celebrated the goal.

Van Dijk played the full 90 minutes alongside Ibrahima Konate at the heart of the Liverpool defence - keeping Inter from having even one shot on target.

The captain of Holland was awarded man of the match for his fine display in the San Siro and is displaying signs of being back to his pre-injury best.
