What Victor Osimhen reportedly makes of Arsenal transfer interest amid Champions League twist

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is 'flattered' by interest from Arsenal, if recent reports are to be believed. The north London side are in dire need of a clinical centre-forward after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave the club in the January transfer window, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah also into the final three months of their contracts at the Emirates Stadium.

The likes of Real Sociedad frontman Alexander Isak and Benfica star Darwin Nunez have been heavily linked with a move to Mikel Arteta's side, as well as Nigeria international Osimhen - who could reportedly cost up to £83million this summer.

Now, Napoli transfer guru Emanuele Cammaroto has claimed that the Gunners are keen on the 23-year-old, although the player is said to want to play in the UEFA Champions League with the Serie A side. “The big names of the Premier League are following him and are beginning to come forward,” said Cammaroto ( via Sport Witness ).

“But Napoli’s idea is to keep the Nigerian centre forward at least for another season unless there are significant proposals. At the moment, Arsenal has come forward and has sounded out the player’s entourage. Osimhen has registered the interest of the Gunners, and it seems that he has been flattered by the proposal. But he doesn’t consider Arsenal a first choice for his career.

“The former Lille bomber wants to play in the Champions League with Napoli, and then he will choose his future.” Just a few weeks ago it looked extremely likely that Arsenal would be playing in the Champions League next season as well.

However, three successive Premier League defeats has seen them fall to sixth in the current standings, something that could negatively impact the Gunners' summer transfer dealings.
