Christian Pulisic's World Cup is over after the USA were beaten 3-1 by the Netherlands in the round of 16. The Chelsea star had enjoyed some strong performances against the likes of England, Wales and Iran in the group stages but will now return back to the Blues.
Pulisic grabbed an assist as Haji Wright scored to make it 2-1 midway through the second half after Memphis Depay and Daley Blind had put the Netherlands 2-0 up at half-time. Denzel Dumfries, who could become Pulisic's teammate at Chelsea in January, followed up on his two assists to secure the win after making it 3-1 in the 81st minute.
The 24-year-old now becomes the latest Chelsea player to exit the tournament in Qatar as Graham Potter continues to prepare his squad for the resumption of Premier League action on Boxing Day. The Blues will face Bournemouth on Tuesday, December 27 to kick-off the second half of the season.

At the end of the match against the Netherlands, Pulisic's teammates all looked to console their captain after the full-time whistle was blown. The 24-year-old was a major injury doubt heading into the crucial round of 16 tie but was passed fit after suffering a groin injury in the 1-0 win against Iran earlier this week.
Pulisic is clearly a favourite amongst the squad and a well-respected figure in the dressing room. USA manager Gregg Berhalter was also seen consoling his captain after the match as the pair walked off the pitch together.
Potter will be hoping Pulisic can continue the brilliant form that he showed at the World Cup into his performances for the Blues when Premier League action resumes later this month.
