What TV Christmas specials are on this year? The festive shows you don't want to miss

It is the most wonderful time of the year, and the best time for telly, right? There are lots of Christmas specials coming to our screens this festive season from comedy to quiz shows.

Sitting down in front of the telly, all cosied up with your loved ones may sound like the perfect Christmas for many. And the schedule is jam packed with lots of TV favourites. Whether it be Mrs Brown and her chaotic family or The Chasers and their festive fun and games, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Christmas specials on TV this festive season

Call the Midwife Christmas Special

Call the Midwife Christmas special has become a huge part of the big day for many TV lovers. And luckily there will be an special episode this festive season.

The upcoming special - which will run for 1 hour and 29 minutes - will see the return of Rhoda Mullucks, whose baby was born with birth defects after Dr Turner prescribed medication to her while pregnant - a season 6 plot that tackled the Thalidomide scandal.

Call the Midwife airs on Christmas Day at 7.55pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The Chase Celebrity Christmas Special

ITV's best known quizzers are back this Christmas Day, with a host of celebrities taking them on in a bid to win some cash for charity.

This year's festive special is Alice in Wonderland themed, with the Chasers - Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty, Mark 'The Beast' Labbett, Paul 'The Sinnerman' Sinha and the other brainiacs - dressing up as characters from the Lewis Carroll story.

Hoping to beat them and win thousands of pounds for their chosen charities are Mrs Brown’s Boys’ Danny O’Carroll, TV medic Dr Zoe Williams, Coronation Street’s Sair Khan and singing sensation Charlotte Church. Bradley Walsh presents.

The Chase Celebrity Christmas Special airs on ITV at 5pm on Christmas Day.

Doc Martin Christmas Special

Martin Clunes will return to TV screens this Christmas in his much-loved role as Doc Martin.

The ITV comedy-drama will air a festive special this year, a perfect gift for fans.

The current Doc Martin cast members are expected to return following the end of season 10, where the cynical medic underwent a near-death experience.

Doc Martin airs on Christmas Day at 9.05pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special

The hit dancing show has just finished, but fans will not have to wait long at all for the glitter ball to be back on screens.

The BBC One show returns for its annual festive special, with a star-studded line up taking to the famous dance floor with the hopes of impressing the judges.

The cast includes Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts and Eastenders and Gavin & Stacey star Larry Lamb.

The show has already been recorded, with the stars taking to the floor on December 7.

Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special airs on Christmas Day at 5.10pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Ant and Dec's Christmas Limitless Win

The Geordie duo haven't had a lot of time off after recently wrapping up this year's I'm a Celebrity.

The pair will be back on TV with a Christmas edition of Limitless win, with various celebs trying their luck in a bid to raise money for charity.

Famous faces Katherine Ryan and Jimmy Carr and Rylan Clark and David Walliams will be teaming up to take on the bigger-than-ever money ladder and trying to bag plenty of money for their charities.

Ant and Dec's Limitless Win returns on 9:05pm on ITV1 on Christmas Day.

Great Christmas Bake Off

It is back to the tent this Christmas for a festive piece of Great British Bake Off action.

Matt Lucas will be back for one last time after recently quitting the show, with Noel Fielding also back to present this year's Christmas special.

Entering the Bake Off tent this year is The Big Breakfast's Gaby Roslin, Blackadder's Sir Tony Robinson, Steph's Packed Lunch presenter Miquita Oliver, The Word's Terry Christian and Brookside's Claire Sweeney

Viewers will also be treated to a performance from the English National Ballet of Swan Lake alongside the various showstopper shenanigans.

The Great Christmas Bake Off airs on Christmas Eve at 8:25pm on Channel 4.

Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas Special

Now here is a Christmas treat if we have ever seen one! Mrs Brown will be back with all her silly antics and family chaos this Christmas.

Brendan O'Carroll will be back as Agnes will return to BBC One this Christmas in the first of two festive specials, with another on episode to air on New Year's Day.

The Irish sitcom has been a hit since 2011, with a Christmas special airing each festive season since 2013.

Alongside O'Carroll will be Jennifer Gibney (Cathy), Fiona O'Carroll (Maria), Martin Delany (Trevor), Danny O'Carroll (Buster), Rory Cowan (Rory) and Eilish O'Carroll (Winnie).

Mrs Brown's Boys airs on Christmas Day at 10.25pm and New Year's Day at 10pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Death in Paradise Christmas Special

It is back to the isle of Saint Marie for a Christmas special this year.

The festive episode will follow the detectives as they deal with the season 11 cliffhanger, which same Commissioner Patterson (Don Warrington) discover that he had fathered a daughter with his former lover Maggie (Orla Brady).

The BBC drama teased this year's Christmas special earlier in the year, with the rest fo the cast - including Élizabeth Bourgine (Catherine Bordey), Tahj Miles (Marlon Pryce), Shantol Jackson (Naomi Thomas) and Ginny Holder (Darlene Curtis) - returning for this festive affair.
