Time is running out for clubs up and down the country to complete their January transfer business ahead of the window closing at 11pm on Monday evening.
After splashing the cash during the summer, when they brought in Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United were never likely to throw hell to the wind this month, despite a change in management since the summer window closed.
Unsurprisingly, exits have been the dominant theme of United's window so far, with confirmation of Anthony Martial's loan move to Sevilla on Tuesday evening the biggest headline so far.
However, Martial is not expected to be the final departure ahead of the deadline, with several faces within the first-team squad continuing to be linked with exits.
With that in mind, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what could happen at Old Trafford in the final few days and hours that lie ahead in this month's window.
Incomings:
As reported by MEN Sport ahead of Christmas, United were set to prioritise the addition of a new holding-midfielder in this month's transfer window, with Ralf Rangnick having quickly identified it as a weak spot within the squad.
While United's need to strengthen that area of the team has by no means extinguished, the likelihood of the club bringing in a new midfielder, or any new recruit, is currently highly unlikely. The summer window is set to be the time when the squad is next bolstered..
Things can change quickly in the January transfer window, especially towards the end of the window, but no new signings are expected to be posing for photographs in a United shirt, holding a scarf aloft, ahead of the bell sounding.
Outgoings:
Dean Henderson
Goalkeeper Henderson signalled his desire to leave Old Trafford last month ahead of the window opening, but saw his wish rejected by Rangnick, who wants to keep hold of him to keep David de Gea on his toes.
Henderson is, understandably, desperate to play regularly and with the World Cup now less than a year away he has every right to be frustrated.
He is understood to be still pushing for a move, but it seems highly unlikely that his wish will be granted ahead of the shutters coming down on Monday night.
Donny van de Beek
Having been offered to both Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund recently by his agent, it appeared as though a ray of light could be beginning to creep into view at the end of a very dark and long tunnel for Van de Beek.
However, the prospect of him joining either of those two clubs have since evaporated. Crystal Palace have now sounded their interest in the Dutchman, who wants to leave Old Trafford, and reports suggest that Palace are keen to get a deal over the line to sign him on loan for the rest of the season.
Whether Van de Beek will seal an exit before the deadline remains to be seen, with plenty of factors still to be taken into consideration.
Jesse Lingard
Lingard is out of contract at United at the end of June and United's only hope of securing a fee for him is by sourcing him a temporary home until the end of the season.
At the time of writing, discussions between United and Newcastle have failed to materialise, with the Reds currently waiting to see if the St James' Park club will return with a new and improved offer to sign him on loan until May.
But considering that they are now closing in on the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon, Newcastle may have given up on signing Lingard.
Other parties are understood to remain interested, including West Ham, but time is running out for United to secure a fee for the midfielder, who is poised to leave permanently in the summer. It may be that one of Lingard and Van de Beek stays, and the other goes.
Amad
MEN Sport understands that United are hoping to send Amad out on loan before the window closes, even if Lingard also finds himself leaving Old Trafford.
Despite sending Martial to Sevilla and the prospect of Lingard leaving still entirely possible, United remain intent on finding Amad a short-term hope to strengthen his personal development.
Amad was on the cusp of joining Feyenoord last summer but saw the deal collapse at the final hurdle because of an unfortunate injury problem. The Dutch club remain keen on signing him, as do several Championship sides.
