What Tottenham's Champions League spot means for Christian Eriksen move after transfer admission

Christian Eriksen is just one of many players who have been rumoured as potential targets for Tottenham this summer. The Dane signed a six month deal with Brentford in January, meaning the contract is soon to expire.

This is just in time for the summer transfer window, where Eriksen will have to decide on his next steps, not long after his return to football. Many Spurs fans would welcome the 30-year-old back to N17, with the quality he has previously shown for the club and continues to possess.

The Lilywhites finished the season in fourth, meaning they secured a spot in the Champions League for next season. Along with a world-class manager in Antonio Conte and a top stadium, the prospect of playing in the top European competition will make Tottenham more attractive to potential new signings.

This is something Eriksen already touched on earlier this month: "I would love to play Champions League football again, I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me," the midfielder admitted.

It wasn't long ago when the Danish international made his return to the Premier League after his cardiac arrest during the Euros last summer. However, the impact the 30-year-old has had on Thomas Frank's side, has been quite incredible.

Eriksen scored a goal and registered four assists in 11 league appearances. Although all you needed to do was watch the midfielder play to see the quality he can bring to a team, as he floats around the pitch and can make an impact when you least expect him to.

Football analysts at BetVictor have worked out the most creative source at each Premier League club, with Kevin De Bruyne topping the list. But you only have to look down to fourth place to find the 30-year-old's name.

Eriksen was given an 86.21 creator rating, finishing above the likes of Reece James and Martin Odegaard. The ratings were given based on player's creative performances during the 2021/22 campaign, taking into account their chance creation, ball progression and ability to break opposition lines.

Last month football.london reported that although the Dane didn't leave the north London club on the best terms with the club's hierarchy, he still loves the club and would like to stay in London.

Just last week, Eriksen gave a further update on his hopes for future, but also what he values most after his comeback. "I've always wanted to win trophies, I'm always on the competitive side, I always want to be the best version possible in any way of course, be playing at the highest level," he admitted in a BBC interview.

"It changes perspective when something like that happens and I see how my family reacts and just the feeling of me being with my family is even more important now. You just realise this is something I care about even more now."

Spurs are hoping that Conte can be the man to help them end their now 14-year trophy drought, with the Italian being a manager Eriksen has previously worked with. With the busy summer that is expected, Tottenham will hopefully have a much better chance of winning silverware next season, which could also attract the Dane to move back to north London.

However the 30-year-old did highlight a key factor in his decision making. "It will be a decision from a sports perspective but also from a family perspective," he said.

"I don't know what the future holds. They [Brentford] definitely are [in the conversation].

"I haven't made up my mind 100% of where I'm going. I have an idea but where that's going to happen or what's going to happen, that I don't know. But Brentford [are] definitely in the category of one of the clubs, for sure," Eriksen added.

An added bonus for Spurs is that the Dane's move wouldn't cost them a penny and for a player of his quality and someone who not only has previous at Tottenham, but also with Conte, it would seem surprising if Fabio Paratici didn't look to target Eriksen.
