What Tottenham players and staff did in memory of Gian Piero Ventrone ahead of training

Tottenham Hotspur continued to pay their respects to fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone on Monday. Ventrone passed away last week, aged just 61, after being diagnosed with leukaemia just days before.

The Spurs staff and players paid their respects to a much-loved colleague before and after Tottenham's 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday. There was a minute's applause before the game, where Antonio Conte was holding back the tears while players from both sides wore black armbands.

After the match, Spurs captain Hugo Lloris paid his own individual tribute to Ventrone. The 35-year-old lifted up a Tottenham shirt with 'Gian Piero' on the back while the away end broke into an emotional chant of 'There's only one Gian Piero'.

Many Spurs fans waved Italian flags from the away end, while Harry Kane and Ryan Sessegnon dedicated the win to Ventrone. Sessegnon told Sky Sports: "We knew we had to perform today. We wanted to win because of him [Ventrone], and thankfully we did that today."

The tributes to Ventrone continued at Tottenham's training ground on Monday. A post on Spurs' official Twitter page showed that the staff and players held a ceremony at the training ground. An Italian Evergreen Oak tree was planted, and a minute's silence was held in his memory.
