Tottenham fans are in buoyant mood on Monday night. And that is without their team even playing.
The Spurs supporters will have been watching on with trepidation as Arsenal played their game in hand against Newcastle United at St. James' Park. But they need not have worried, with Arsenal turning in a limp display, going down to a 2-0 defeat.
After a goalless first half dominated by Newcastle, an own goal from Ben White put the home side in command. Mikel Arteta went for broke, throwing attacking players on the field, with Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli and Alexandre Lacazette all on the pitch at the same time, but a goal from Bruno Guimaraes late on, a player Arsenal were linked with signing before he went to the Magpies, ended their hopes.

And it all but ended their Champions League hopes as a result. The Premier League season has one weekend left to play, with Arsenal at home to relegation-threatened Everton on Sunday, while Tottenham face a trip to already relegated Norwich.
So what does Arsenal's defeat mean for the race for the top four? Arsenal were two points behind Spurs going into the game at Newcastle, meaning that they remain two points adrift going into the final weekend of the campaign.
Not only that, but the Gunners have a far inferior goal difference too. That means that Spurs only need a draw at Carrow Road on Sunday to guarantee a place in next season's Champions League and once again finish above their bitter rivals in the table.
Should Spurs lose to Norwich, Arsenal would have to beat Everton to claim fourth place. If Spurs do draw, the only way Arsenal can finish fourth is with a 16-goal swing - which let's face it is not going to happen.
