What Todd Boehly was spotted doing ahead of Raheem Sterling's Chelsea transfer as 'medical done'

Todd Boehly's baptism into English football certainly hasn't been a simple and easy one to date.

Coming into a club where much of the playing squad were looking for challenges elsewhere meant that the LA Dodgers part-owner was always going to be on the back-foot from the moment he walked in through the doors of Stamford Bridge. Not only the playing cohort though, key members of the board in the form of Marina Granovskaia, Petr Cech and Bruce Buck, all of whom aided transfer strategy, decided to cut their ties in the aftermath of the Roman Abramovich era.

This has left Boehly himself as interim sporting director this summer, whilst manager Thomas Tuchel was handed more power regarding transfers- a strategy that may change again once a full-time sporting director is hired amid links to Michael Edwards and Paul Mitchell.

However, in the short time that Boehly has had to do his interim job, he has so far had a mixed success rate in relation to what has happened so far in this summer's transfer window for a side that finished in third place, way off Liverpool and Premier League champions Manchester City last season.

On one hand, despite all the negotiations behind the scenes, it seems as though Barcelona are to oust Chelsea in the battle for Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha. But, the imminent Raheem Sterling signing certainly signals a good amount of intent to back Tuchel and aid him with a player who he views as imperative to his new system amid rumours that a back four formation could be coming back into play.

Sterling's move - which will rise over £50 million after all add-ons are accounted for - is likely to be confirmed very soon, with the 27-year-old expected to join up with the squad in the United States next week for the pre-season tour. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that that the main part of the medical took place over the weekend in London and this was further backed up after the international was spotted in a barber shop in the capital.

Whilst Boehly still has a lot to do to ensure that he lives up to his £200m and six signings promise, no deal seems near the finishing line for the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Nathan Ake. However, the American did find time to let his hair down and acclimatise to England.

This is because, as per The Daily Mail, the 48-year-old was spotted in Hyde Park on Saturday attending a Pearl Jam concert with a can of lager in his hand.

Chelsea fans will certainly be hoping they can toast a successful transfer window despite a relatively slow start once the September 1 deadline has passed.
