What Todd Boehly and Bruce Buck did during Chelsea vs Wolves amid shock Premier League draw

Chelsea had to settle for a point from the first game of the Todd Boehly era with a tight and narrow 2-2 draw with Wolves in the Premier League. Boehly, whose bid has been accepted by Chelsea but who now must wait for approval from the Premier League and UK Government, would have learnt a lot from what he saw from Thomas Tuchel's side on Saturday afternoon.

Boehly and his consortium saw confirmation of their £4billion agreement announced early on Saturday. A statement read: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss, to acquire the Club.

"Of the total investment being made, £2.5bn will be applied to purchase the shares in the Club and such proceeds will be deposited into a frozen UK bank account with the intention to donate 100% to charitable causes as confirmed by Roman Abramovich. UK Government approval will be required for the proceeds to be transferred from the frozen UK bank account.

"In addition, the proposed new owners will commit £1.75bn in further investment for the benefit of the Club. This includes investments in Stamford Bridge, the Academy, the Women’s Team and Kingsmeadow and continued funding for the Chelsea Foundation. The sale is expected to complete in late May subject to all necessary regulatory approvals. More details will be provided at that time."

The first half was one that won't be remembered too well by anyone watching on due to the lack of chance creation that was seen in SW6 in this fixture. Timo Werner thought he had given the Blues the lead but had a foul contentiously given against him on Romain Saiss.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek then had a goal disallowed courtesy of a dramatic VAR episode late on in the half but Tony Roberts' Wolves side posed their own threats and could have gained a first half lead if Saiss, Leander Dendocker and Rayan Ait Nouri had been sharper in front of goal.

The score was therefore 0-0 at half-time and Boehly certainly would have had mixed views about what he had witnessed. He was caught in a deep conversation during the interval with Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck. What would have been on the agenda during that conversation?

Well, if that conversation would have happened at full-time, transfer strategy ahead of the summer, coupled with his own views on the Romelu Lukaku situation, would have mostly likely been the topics that were shared between himself and Buck.

Lukaku rediscovered his groove with two well taken goals early on in the second half but a defensive collapse late on showed how Tuchel will likwely need to be abcked with transfer funds over the summer to refresh the backline, with Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and César Azpilicueta set to leave Stamford bridge in the close-season.
