What to watch on TV if you're not watching the Queen's state funeral on Channel 4 and Channel 5

Eleven days after her death was announced, Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest on today (Monday). The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral on September 8, aged 96.

Four days of lying in state will come to an end early Monday morning before the Queen's state funeral begins. At 8am on the morning of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral, the doors of Westminster Abbey will open for the congregation to begin taking their seats. The King will then once again lead his family in marching behind the Queen’s coffin when it is moved, at 10.44am on Monday, from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey for the Queen’s funeral service.

The procession will arrive at the west gate of Westminster Abbey at 10.52am when the bearer party will lift the coffin from the gun carriage and carry it into the Abbey for the state funeral service, the Earl Marshal said. The service will begin at 11am and will be conducted by the Dean of Westminster.

Her Majesty’s coffin will then be carried from Wellington Arch by the State Hearse to Windsor where the Queen will be laid to rest. There will be a procession to St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle ahead of the committal service, where Her Majesty will buried next to the Duke of Edinburgh, which is not open to the public.

Major broadcasters, such as BBC, ITV and Sky News, will air rolling coverage of the historic event. For example, the BBC will be providing full coverage of The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen across television, radio, iPlayer and BBC Sounds. A special programme will be on air from 0800-1700 on BBC One, BBC Two and iPlayer.

There are, however, some alternatives if you didn't want to watch the coverage or if you need a moment of restbite from the sombre occasion.

Channel 4 won't be streaming the funeral live on Monday, however, they are still keeping a royal theme to their planned programming. A 1953 documentary titled, A Queen Is Crowned, which was Oscar-nominated and is narrated by Sir Laurence Olivier, will air. They will also broadcast two extended editions of Channel 4 News as well as the 1943 Vera Lynn film, We'll Meet Again

Channel 5 will be airing plenty of family-friendly movies on Monday. It starts with The Emoji Movie at 11.10am, before the classic children's film Stuart Little begins at 12.25pm.

Ice Age: Dawn of The Dinosaurs and the animated movie SING will also air on Channel 5 throughout the afternoon, at 1.50pm and 3.20pm respectively.
