Prime Minister Boris Johnson is preparing to face Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer, MPs and Tory backbenchers today following the publication of the Sue Gray report into Downing Street and Whitehall gatherings during lockdown. It is understood Mr Johnson will give a statement to MPs from around 12.30pm after Prime Minister's Questions at noon, the Mirror reports.
It is understood he will meet Tory backbenchers at 5pm as he attempts to fend off more calls for him to resign in the wake of the scandal. Sue Gray’s report is understood to be 37 pages long and also has nine photos – including pictures of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Cabinet Secretary Simon Case.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has said that the Prime Minister Boris Johnson has already apologised for mistakes made over ‘partygate’. Speaking in Lisburn, outside Belfast, Ms Truss added: “The Prime Minister has already apologised for what has happened.
“He has already taken responsibility and of course the Sue Gray report will be coming out later today. The Prime Minister will be making a statement in Parliament.”
Asked if she believes Mr Johnson will be in trouble following the report, she replied: “I am 100% behind the Prime Minister.”
