What time should I get to airport as Ryanair, easyJet, TUI and Jet2 have different advice

Some Scots may be planning to jet away for a few days while the schools are off.

Following huge airport queues during the summer, some may want to know when exactly they should arrive at the airport ahead of their flight.

Those flying out from Edinburgh Airport should arrive when the check-in desk opens, which is typically between two and three hours before the flight.

As for Glasgow airport, the FAQ section on their website states: "You should arrive at the airport two or three hours before your flight departs and allow enough time for your journey to the airport."

They add that those driving to the airport should consider possible traffic delays, particularly if they have a longer journey to the airport.

Aberdeen Airport states that passengers should allow at least two hours before your scheduled departure time for international flights, and allow at least one and a half hours before UK and Ireland flights.

However, the time at which you should arrive at an airport can also depend on the airline that you are flying with. With that in mind, here is what the major airlines say about getting to the airport.

Ryanair

Ryanair recommends that passengers check in their baggage as "early as possible" - with the bag drop opening two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time.

Passengers are advised to arrive at least three hours before their flight is due to leave.

EasyJet

There is no specified time for passengers to arrive at the airport for those who have checked in online, but easyJet advises passengers that departure gates close 30 minutes before departure.

If you cannot check in online you should check in at the airport at least two hours before your flight.

TUI

Standard check in for TUI flights open at least two and a half hours before departure.

However, for passengers travelling on long-haul flights, the check in opens at least three and a half hours before the plane departs.

British Airways

When travelling with BA, check-in opens three hours before long haul flights and two hours before short haul flights.

Passengers must arrive no later than 45 minutes before departure.

Jet2

Jet2 passengers should arrive at least two hours and 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport in “good time” as the check in desks close 40 minutes before the flight departs.
