Today (September 1) sees the launch in the US of Amazon Prime Video ’s highly anticipated series, The Rings of Power. This epic drama, set thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, is thought to be the most expensive TV series ever made.
The eight episodes are reported to have cost $465m (£403m) to make and, after a double-episode release this week, will be available weekly until October 14.

The double-episode opener is available to watch in the UK on Amazon Prime Video at 2am on Friday, September 2. So, it’s an early start for some – and a late night for others.
