Scotland v Ukraine TV channel and start time for World Cup play-off

All eyes will be on Glasgow on Wednesday night as Scotland take on Ukraine in their crucial World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final. The tie was originally set to go ahead in March, but was postponed due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The winner of Wednesday's fixture will go on to play Wales in the play-off final in Cardiff on Sunday, June 5. Whoever wins that game will earn themselves a place at the World Cup in Qatar later this year, joining England, Iran and USA in Group B.

Scotland last qualified for the World Cup in 1998 and have not appeared in the qualifying play-offs for 18 years, while they finished bottom of Group D at last summer's European Championships. Ukraine, meanwhile, have only qualified for the World Cup once since breaking away from the Soviet Union, reaching the quarter-finals in 2006.

The game will, of course, be played against the backdrop of tragedy in Ukraine, with the visitors full of motivation to be able to represent their country in Qatar against the odds. However, Scotland coach Steve Clark has said his squad is also fired up as they hope to reach their first World Cup for 24 years.

Here's everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday evening's game:

What is the latest Scotland v Ukraine team news?

Scotland will be without talismanic defender Kieran Tierney for Wednesday night's clash, with the Arsenal star being left out of the squad as he continues to recover from a knee operation. Everton's Nathan Patterson has been called up, but Steve Clarke has admitted he is unlikely to be fit for the crucial play-off semi-final. Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has also made the squad despite missing the final league game of the season with Norwich, while defenders John Souttar and Liam Cooper return to the fold following their injuries. Ukraine, meanwhile, will be without Shaktar Donetsk defender Serhiy Kryvtsov who has been left out of the squad.

What has Scotland coach Steve Clarke said?

"Everyone is saying they will be so motivated but you’ll find our lads will be motivated to get to Qatar as well. We’ve waited a long time for this situation. It’s difficult for a country like Scotland to qualify for a World Cup. It’s difficult to put yourselves in this position, where we are two games away from going to Qatar. Myself, my staff and my players are all determined to be there.”

Who is the Scotland v Ukraine referee?

Danny Makkelie will take charge of proceedings at Hampden Park. The Dutch official will be assisted by Hessel Steegstra and Jan de Vries. Serdar Gözübüyük will be the fourth official while Pol van Boekel is the video assistant referee.

What is the format of the game?

The semi-final is a single-leg contest. It means the game will be decided on the night in Glasgow. Should the match remain level after 90 minutes, extra-time will be played while a penalty shootout will take place if required.
