What time is Nicola Sturgeon's independence statement today? Where to watch and what to expect?

Nicola Sturgeon is set to kick-start her Scottish independence campaign later today.

The First Minister has committed her SNP /Green Government to hold another vote on Scotland's future by the end of next year.

Preparatory work has already been undertaken by the Scottish Government with £20 million set aside in the latest spending review for a future vote in 2023.

During a press conference later this morning Sturgeon and Patrick Harvie, Minister for Zero Carbon Buildings, Active Travel and Tenants' Rights, will set out their vision for what an independent Scotland could look like.

It comes after former First Minister Alex Salmond urged the government to start the firing gun for another constitutional vote.

Sturgeon and Harvie want to hold a referendum but they are also looking for a joint agreement with the UK Government to underpin a vote, however Prime Minister Boris Johnson's refusal means they may opt for a Holyrood-only Bill.

Here's all you need to know about the statement:

What time is Nicola Sturgeon's announcement?

The First Minister is due to speak from Bute House in Edinburgh at around 11am on Tuesday, June 14.

Nicola Sturgeon will be joined by co-leader of the Scottish Green Party Patrick Harvie at the press conference.

Where can I watch the press conference?

The announcement will be available to watch on a number of platforms.

The Daily Record Politics team will live blog the event which will involve questions from members of the media following a statement from Sturgeon and Harvie. You can follow our blog here.

It will also be available to watch on the official Scottish Government Twitter account. The statement can be viewed here.

What can I expect from the speech?

Sturgeon and Harvie will launch the first in a series of papers around Scottish independence.

The announcement today is titled: Independence in the Modern World. Wealthier, Happier, Fairer: Why Not Scotland?

The series of papers called 'Building a new Scotland' will give Scots an idea of what will " form a prospectus for an independent Scotland to enable people to make an informed choice about Scotland’s future before any referendum takes place".

What's the reaction?

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton took aim at Sturgeon and urged the FM to fix NHS waiting times, the cost of living crisis and the climate emergency.

He said: "Nicola Sturgeon has launched more independence campaigns than ferries.

"This coalition is about one thing and one thing only. Ministers are devoting their attention, top civil servants and tens of millions of pounds to independence.

"They care more about their independence obsession than everyone stuck on the longest NHS waiting lists in history, the cost of living crisis or the climate emergency. Nobody believes education is Nicola Sturgeon’s top priority any more.

"The SNP and Greens are taking people for granted. Let’s lay aside talk of an independence referendum and get to grips with what matters right now."
