Another historic day is upon us as King Charles III Coronation takes place on Saturday (May 6). The former Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla will officially be crowned King and Queen in a Westminster Abbey ceremony months after the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The official ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury before the day will end with members of the royal family appearing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace. And while thousands will flock to the capital to catch a glimpse of the memorable occasion, many of us will host parties or simply watch from the comfort of our homes.
It comes after millions of people are thought to have watched the Queen's coronation on television in June 1953. The BBC was the only broadcaster in the UK at this time and its television service had not been running very long, having launched in 1936, closed during the Second World War, then restarted in 1946.

While there are no reliable viewing figures due to TV being in its infancy, based on surveys carried out after the coronation of Elizabeth II, the BBC estimated that its television coverage of the event was seen by more than 20 million adults in Britain.
This weekend, viewers can watch the Coronation in a number of different ways. On Saturday on BBC One, The Coronation of HM The King: The Preparation will air from 7.30am to 10.15am. This will be followed from 10.15am to 1pm by The Coronation of HM The King with the Coronation service due to begin at 11am.
This will then be followed by Coronation of HM The King: The Celebration from 1pm to 3pm and Charles R: The Making of a Monarch from 5.15pm to 6.15pm. The day will then be rounded off by Victoria Young with The Coronation: A Day To Remember at 7pm until 8.30pm.
Over on ITV1, in an unusual move, Good Morning Britain will be on air with a rare Saturday morning episode. Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard will be live from Westminster Abbey, Ranvir Singh will be outside the Abbey speaking to guests as they arrive, Kate Garraway will be live from Buckingham Palace, Charlotte Hawkins will be with the Armed Forces and Laura Tobin will be live from the Long Walk in Windsor.
Special guests that day will include Mel B and Jonathan Dimbleby amongst others. This will then be taken over by a special ITV News programme, King Charles III: The Coronation, from 8.30am to 3pm. Meanwhile, Sky's coverage of the ceremony will be spearheaded by Alastair Bruce and Kay Burley, and will be broadcast on Sky News and Sky Showcase from 7am to 3pm.
